Intro

While Moses meets with God on the mountain, Israel quickly turns to idolatry and worships the golden calf. Their rebellion exposes the depth of human sin and the tendency to exchange God’s glory for something more immediate and controllable. 

Yet even in judgment, God preserves His people through Moses’ intercession, demonstrating that His mercy remains greater than their failure.

Gospel Connection

Where Israel failed, Jesus succeeds. He intercedes perfectly and preserves our relationship with God. The golden calf reveals how quickly the human heart turns from worshiping God to worshiping created things. Yet even in judgment, God’s mercy shines through by providing a mediator for His people. Jesus becomes the ultimate mediator who takes judgment upon Himself so that sinners can be forgiven and restored.
